Selena's Pay it Forward

What is pay it forward?

To me, Pay it forward is doing act an act of kindness to random people and getting nothing in return. You do something for them that makes them happy and makes you feel good inside! Just for the heck of it. Just to try and make a difference. Then whoever you helped, goes and pays it forward to somebody else, and so forth. It's a chain reaction. The simplest things can make a difference.

We chose to do this because:
Smiling to me just makes me feel happier. When I see other people smile it makes me feel good. You never know when all somebody needs is a smile to make them feel better. Even just a simple hello. Whenever I am upset and I see my bestfriends being silly and telling jokes to make me happy again, it always works. Smiling and laughter is the best medicine in my book.

Our act of kindness took place on December 1st in the afternoon and evening.

"How did your act of kindness go?"
I think our act of kindness went great! Mae and I wanted to make people smile, and we did.
         "What happened?"
Mae and I went to polo park and handed out candy canes with notes on them. We also left notes on cars and candy canes in some mailboxes on my street.

      "How did you feel?"
I felt awesome! The ladies at Lush were SO kind to us! they were all smiling which made me feel really good inside! I am glad that we did this project even though it took us awhile to get everything organized.
"How did the person or people react?"
Around the mall as we gave out, some would smile and say thank you but at Lush, that's completely different! From personal experience I know that the ladies there are already nice considering I am in that store every single time I do go to Polo. When we explained to one of the girls what we were doing she had such a big smile on her face! I felt so great! After she told us we were so sweet and adorable etc etc, I wanted to look around. Another lady came up to us and asked if we needed anything, Mae and I decided to tell her about our candy canes and give her one! The lady was soo nice that she gave us hand treatments!!! Our hands were so ridiculously soft afterwards!

"Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?"
In fact we did! I wrote "pay it forward" on our notes and others knew about the movie so they had a good idea of what we were doing.

"How did they react to your request?"
After we mentioned the movie "Pay it forward" They underdstood what we meant.

"Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?"
Pay it forward is important because well, we are the change! The smallest little things can make the biggest differences. It's up to us to make our world a better place.

"Has your act of kindness made a difference?"
I believe mae and I made a difference in the peoples days. Hopefully they might have told friends about it and maybe they may want to pay it forward! Although we haven't donated the clothes YET we still will! I donate clothes and stuff regularly actually! Hopefully the kids who read those books will love them and maybe it'll encourage them to read more!

I hope that you enjoyed our video. Go out and

make somebody's day! Pay it forward.

Selena's Fraction Scribepost

Hello 8-14 (:

Today we had to answer three questions and worked on different ways to answer them.

1: In words
2: Simple addition (we didn't do much on this it was however mentioned)
3: Number line

(Sorry my picture isn't as clear as I hoped)

For words all you do is change the "x" to "groups of.

For addition you take the second fraction (eg 4 x 1/2) and write it like this: 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2

For the number line you just take "hops on it" so if the question is 2 x 1/2 you would make two 1/2 "hops" (if that even makes any sense) Here is a video for a better understanding.

We also learned a bit about words for Division...

That's everything I could remember we did in class,
and what I at least know how to do.

Have a fabulous night. (:

My We Day Experience

My overall thoughts of this experience was just so overwhelming. When I woke up I was not expecting to be so impacted by this. When I arrived at school I was very excited to start my day. The bus ride there felt like it took so long. When we FINALLY got there I was so pumped up! As we were walking to go find our seats, we saw Phoebe and Scott from Much Music! I am a really REALLY big fan of Pheobe and was so excited when I saw her! Once I saw other people taking pictures with her I got even more excited!!! I went in line as soon as I could and my heart was pounding!!  I gave her the biggest hug ever and I felt like I was about to cry! I also got her autograph! I couldn't stop jumping and freaking out!

Once I calmed down a bit Jessica Tran, Jessica Da Silva, Mae, Perry and I went to go look at the T-shirts. I purchased the "We have the power" one. (:

After that we took our seats and the show began. Once I heard Jesse Giddings song I freaked out and started screaming! I'm a HUGE Jesse Giddings fan. Once I heard his song, I already knew it was gonna be a great time. There were so many amazing performances and speeches! My three main performances were Tyler Shaw, Shawn Desman and my all time favorite.... LIGHTS! Tyler Shaw did an amazing job! He sang "Kiss Goodnight" (: Shawn Desman performed "Nobody does it like you" Mae and I were dancing and singing along. It was a lot of fun.

Finally, Jesse Giddings said "would you all get on your feet OR SHOULD I SAY TOES-" at this point I was already screaming because I knew it was going to be her.  Once Lights started her performance I started to cry. All though it sounds silly, Lights is my inspiration and my idol. Being able to see her preform for the second time makes me feel unbelievably blessed! She sang her song "Toes" and I sang along with her. I cried the whole time and I couldn't get a nice enough picture considering I was jumping, yelling and sobbing. I was feeling lots of emotions when she preformed. I think the people in front of me noticed because they kept looking at me like I was crazy, I could care less though. Once she finished I screamed "I LOVE YOU LIGHTS" (:

Other than performances there were also phenomenal speakers. People like Hannah Taylor,  Mikhail Gorbachev, Spencer West, Molly Burke, and of course Marc and Craig Kielburger, and others. Everyone was very inspiring but Molly Burke is the one who probably impacted me the most. Molly told us that she hurt her ankle and had to use crutches. One day a group of "popular girls" asked her to hangout with them. She said she was so desperate that she agreed even though she KNEW they were bullies. They went to a forest and when Molly took a rest and sat down, she HEARD her crutches being slammed against a tree and she knew they were broken. Molly then told us to all to be silent,  for seven seconds. The lights dimmed. She told us she didn't tell us one detail. "This is how I see my world", I didn't know what she meant. She  then began to say "I am blind". Everyone was in shock and we all looked at each other. We were all surprised and definitely didn't expect it. Her voice was so strong and powerful! I didn't know how to react once she said it! She is very strong girl who has been through a lot. She was very inspirational.

Over all it was an amazing experience and it made me want to change the world! I want to make a difference. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Don't wait for the change, BE THE CHANGE.

Selena's Proportion Post

Part One

Part Two

Part Three:

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?

-3/4 = 12/16 > if you multiply 3 and 4 by 4 you get 12 and 16 ( 3x4= 12 & 4x4=16) this is the
                       horizontal method.

<<< or cross multiply

-For the statement 4/9 = 16/32, it is false, 4x4 does equal 16 but 9x4 equals 36. Whatever you do to one side, you do to the other.

Part Four:

Part Five

  1. Does this seem fair?
  2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above.  Does it seem just and fair?
  3. Why have you made this choice?
  4. What would you have done if you were the judge?

  1. No it does not seem fair.
  2. stealing 3 billion dollars compared to 100 dollars is a HUGE difference.
  3. in the first place the homeless man stole only 100 dollars and confessed! 15 years compares to 3 is very different!
  4. If i was the Judge I'd send the CEO to prison for 15 years and maybe the homeless man for a few months at the most! all though he IS homeless he has to suffer the consequences but 15 years is just ridiculous

Bonus
How tall is the tree on the right of the boy.
IMG_4416
The height of the average boy is about 5'2 -ish. You could fit about Three of him on the tree.
5.2x3= 15.6.  I think the tree is roughly 15.6 ft tall.
